The Resolute Group had the chance to visit the Young Rail Professionals event hosted by KPMG in Canary Wharf. The event was a great success, with a full house and positively charged atmosphere.
During the event, we heard from industry leaders including Andy Bagnall (Chief Executive, Rail Partners), Conrad Bailey CBE (Director General, Department for Transport), Anit Chandarana (Lead Director, Great British Railways Transition Team), Jennifer Beston (Infrastructure Director, Network Rail High Speed), and Maggie Simpson OBE (Director General, Rail Freight Group.)
The event offered a genuine insight into these leaders who are influencing and guiding the rail sector through a period of significant change. We were also able to learn how Andy, Conrad, Anit, Jennifer and Maggie has leveraged their extensive experience across several sectors to provide point of discussion to those operating in the upper echelons, to ultimately defining solutions that bring customers back to rail.
Some of the key point we took away with us were:
- Although rail is considered the greenest form of transport, those in the industry need to prove themselves in delivering for the customers and balancing the books if they are to gain the trust of the government and secure investment.
- Currently, there is a significant gap in UK rail finances.
- Now is a critical time for rail, but there is a risk that a funding squeeze may lead to a downward spiral of decline
Overall, it was a great event and we would like to thank Young Rail Professionals (YRP) and KPMG for arranging and hosting this event and we would definitely recommend checking out YRP if you haven’t already.
