The Resolute Group attends Bilborough College’s Skills Day

Phil Crew and Tabitha J. were delighted to attend Bilborough College’s Skills Day on Thursday 25th June 2026, delivering an engaging and informative session for A Level students. Their workshop was structured into three key areas: addressing skill shortages in the infrastructure sector, the power of LinkedIn, and CV development.

Students were also introduced to the wide range of career opportunities available within infrastructure, including project and site management, civil and structural engineering, electrical engineering, quantity surveying and commercial management, mechanical engineering, and many more. With so many potential pathways, choosing a career direction can feel both exciting and overwhelming. Whether students already had a clear interest in infrastructure or were exploring the industry for the first time, the session provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the variety of roles available, the scale of exciting projects across the sector, and the long-term benefits of building a career in this field.

The event also gave The Resolute Group a chance to demonstrate how social media, particularly LinkedIn, can be a powerful tool when starting a career. Students brought along their CVs, highlighting their work experience and interests, and received practical, tailored guidance on how to develop them into professional, engaging documents that stand out to recruiters.

Drawing on industry expertise, Phil and Tabitha helped students understand what makes a strong CV, how to effectively present their skills, and what employers are really looking for during the recruitment process. They also shared advice on building a professional online presence and approaching job applications with confidence. A key message throughout the session was that employers are not simply looking for a piece of paper; while academic qualifications are important, organisations are increasingly interested in understanding the individual behind the application.

Visits like these play an essential role in bridging the gap between education and industry, helping young people become aware of the opportunities available to them and feel more confident in taking their first steps into the world of work.
